Windows 7 Backup Solutions

The data contained on your computer, or in your computer network, is the bedrock of your business. What would happen if suddenly all of that data disappeared? Well, it could literally mean the end of your business. There are different back up solutions for different operating systems, but here we will focus on how you would approach a Windows 7 backup.

Windows 7 backup and restore centre

Most people are not even aware that, if you are considering a backupto protect all of your data, Windows 7 has its own tools for this purpose. The centre is a predecessor of that first introduced when Windows Vista came on the market, and as such this centre is an even further improved and refined offering to previous ones.
So, the first thing to do would be to investigate the centre to ascertain if you are able to take care of your backup yourself.

Windows 7 'duplicate copy' feature

When doing a Windows 7 backup, be aware that the duplicate or 'shadow copy' feature enables the restoration of earlier versions of files or folders. Should you decide to change the file or folders this functionality will automatically update previous version of that file or folders with your changes. This is especially convenient if you are working on a shared network or external hard drives, as these are supported during the process.

Failed backup

If you are unable to undertake a backup, or something goes wrong during the process, then its time to call in the professionals, who can assess the problem, restore any data you may have lost and then back everything up.

Server Support for Small Business

Small business forms an important part of global business. After all this is what generates most new jobs, employment, and keeps economies going in most capitalist countries. In order to ensure that small business runs smoothly, it needs to be provided with the right server support or it infrastructure management.

So what is good server support? Most business software applications run on servers which give employees a centralized platform to access information and run their business needs. This could be payroll software, CRM software, file systems, accounting, HR, ERP applications amongst many other line of business applications. Applications run on operating systems like Windows or Linux, and it is important to maintain the operating systems for optimal health. This includes properly patching all security vulnerabilities using Windows Updates, ensuring that server is running proper security software like firewall and anti-virus and other preventative maintenance items. Preventative maintenance items include deleting temporary files and defragmenting the disk on a periodic basis.

Talking about physical conditions for IT Infrastructure management, small business needs to make sure that all servers and racks are maintained in right temperature conditions, power backup, humidity, and away from a dusty environment. It is always recommended to have your server under manufacturer or vendor warranty, with a quick replacement service level agreement with them. Any sort of hardware failures can occur, and you need to be protected and ensure minimal downtime for your business needs.

The other important thing in small business server support is around backups and disaster recovery. This is an aspect that most small businesses ignore all together. It is extremely important to invest in good backup software. Today, there is a wide range of bare-metal recovery backup products available in the market. Bare metal recovery backs up an entire server disk volume as opposed to only certain files or applications. This makes recovering the entire disk volume much easier and hassle free recovery. An added feature of these products is the fact that they can also do recovery on different server hardware. So, if there is a hardware failure, you can simply paste the bare-metal recovery image on to a new hardware and you're ready to be back online.

Book Scanning

Scanning books can be a delicate task. With millions of rare in irreplaceable books in private and public ownership the desire to scan in a non destructive way is growing. Books are often scanned to allow them to be re-published as eBooks, or to allow them to be reprinted when demand returns. In the case of very rare books, it is wise to make a digital backup just in case the original is ever lost.

People have been scanning books, albeit with poor results, ever since the invention of the document scanner. Technology has now developed to such a degree that books can be scanned with speed and amazing accuracy. Specialised scanners hold the books in a v-shaped cradle and cameras take photographs of the opposing pages.

In the early days, using flatbed scanners, there were issues with shadows and curvature near the binding of the book. This curvature and shadowing would render text near the gutter illegible. The overhead book scanner sought to resolve these issues by taking snap shots from above the book, however the problem of curvature was ever present.

By using a v-shaped cradle, books sit open at approx. 45 degrees, a v-shaped glass screen is lowered onto the book which ensures that the pages lay flat. Once the screen is lowered, two cameras take photos of the pages. Software can then be used on the captured images to crop and then to OCR, extracting an editable text based version of the book.

Book scanning has plenty of applications, from rare historical books, to company journals, council records, technical manuals and out of print books. Once scanned and converted, these books can be republished as eBooks or re printed using traditional methods.

Technology And Traditional Cultures - Conflict Or Not

Today a great number of people commence to recognize that a lot of traditional customs and traditions tend to be losing their own charm and some of which have actually disappeared. There are many reasons as far as this phenomenon is concerned, there is an idea that the fast growth and development of technology impedes the traditional cultures. I don't agree with this concept. On the contrary, I think the development of technology is not just suitable for traditional cultures, but can advertise the development of the second one.

First of all, we must explain a concept which a number of traditional customs have got vanished not necessarily because of the progression of technologies, however, due to the globalization procedure of the whole world. Exchanges in politics, economy, and particular culture, will definitely modify our way of thinking and ways of living. For example, young people become more interested in several western festivals like Christmas and Saint Valentine's Day, while less interested in some Chinese traditional festivals. But when technology is concerned, it helps the transmission and marketing of traditional cultures. Look at the World wide web which brings the cultures around the globe before all of us, as well as our cultures prior to the world. With so many digital details online, we can just sit and enjoy the knowing associated with a lot of wonderful overseas traditions as well as customs in the planet.

Concurrently, our traditional Chinese culture is also transmitted and advertised worldwide. Moreover, modern tools provide us with a lot of vibrant and energetic methods of passing our traditional customs to foreign countries around the world. In comparison to reading ancient Chinese articles regarding Confucius, for example, various and advanced audio-video shows assist children enjoy the studying process of our own conventional lifestyle. At the same time, along with today's technology, we are able to find much more about our own traditional culture and some culture relics such as paintings or calligraphies, which have been or may be damaged or eroded in the future, can be preserved for decades and hundreds of years. Totally owing to these kinds of sophisticated technology, we can adore those masterpieces of our traditional culture.

From all the above mentioned, we are able to note that modern technology has done a huge favor for our traditional cultures. Although the breakthroughs in modern science appear to have changed people's way of thinking and ways of living, they can by no means take the place of traditional cultures. Through correctly employing the current technological accomplishments, we can certainly accelerate the development of our traditional culture, as opposed to impeding it.

What Are DVD Video Recorders?

I find technology confusing. In fact like me, many people do since technology is moving at a fast pace and it is often difficult to keep up with it. Unless you are constantly in touch with media and keep reading about new gadgets in the market and also keep using them, it is impossible to know what is going on. And one day when someone talks about the different between set top box DVR and PC DVR when you walk into the store, then you are perplexed.

Television is one the most popular entertainment media till date. But often you miss out on some of your favourite programs or featured movies and feel disappointed. That is when technology comes into use. You must have heard people speaking about how you can record your favourite tracks or programs on a appliance called DVD video recorder but never got into the details of it. So when you finally go to the shop asking for a DVR, the questions being pointed at you confuse you thoroughly.

When you would want to buy a DVR, the first thing you need to decide is what type of video you primarily want to record? Is it that you want to record the programs coming out of satellite television or set top box or is it that you want something compatible with your personal computer and record what is being played on your PC. If you want to go for something that can be compatible with your camera or camcorder as well, then you should go for the set top package itself.

Several manufacturers offer a variety of DVD video recorder product types in the market. Some of the known ones are TiVo, Motorola, RCA and Scientific Atlanta. Since technology does not wait for anyone, there have been modifications in DVRs as well. Nowadays there are many companies, such as Replay TV that are targeting PC users, offering software packages that turn your computer into a DVR. Well known companies like Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba even manufacture DVD recorders that are inbuilt with a hard drive which makes them as good as a DRV. If it could get any better than this then there are cable companies like Cox, Time Warner etc who even offer in built DVD video recorders within the cable television packages.

DVD video recorders are like memory extensions that you can plug in to either your PC or your set top box and it records images or videos that you want. These actually have a lot of memory and can store extensive amount of videos. At the same time you might be having a habit of recording many programs on a given day. So if at any point of time you feel your DVD recorder box is full then there are easy options of copying these videos into DVDs without erasing them. This way these are easily reproducible and save you the pain of loosing precious memories. So order your DVR now to store all those important videos that you always wanted to.
